Review
A great album and a worthy successor of their last album Chutes Too Narrow! Wincing The Night Away contains a lot of emotionality, built up with fine melodies and subtle harmonic tensions, nevertheless always with a poppy rythm. The soft voice of singer James Mercer makes the songs so playful, casual and still touching. There are some ‘lesser’ songs but the overall quality of this album is very high, with some excellent songs like ‘Phantom Limb’ with its nice beat and beautiful chorus, and ‘A Comet Appears’ with its charming melody. Have fun with this wonderful album!
