The Feeling is a five piece inspired by 70s pop-rock; 10cc, Supertramp, ELO, Queen and the like. Yet you don’t really hear this influence all too much in their songs (unlike in songs of The Darkness). Twelve Stops and Home, the debut album of The Feeling, brings you britpop/soft rock like Thirteen Senses and Athlete do. The Feeling has a more unique sound than Thirteen Senses; it brings you a better voice (in my opinion) and prettier melodies (better songwriting skills). We have some real superb songs on this album; ‘Sewn’, one of their singles, is one of my favourites. The piano ballad ‘Rose’ is also very beautiful. Along with their great pop/soft rock sound, you get a lot of emotion and lush harmonies.
My favorite songs: 5. Sewn, 8. Love It When You Call, 9. Rose

What is really strange about this album is how the lyrics totally don’t match the mellow music. The melodies and music are gentle, acoustic and warm. It sounds beautiful with the folky whispering voice of Jacob Thomas Berns. But the lyrics are a bit upsetting to be honest … they are about killing and hurting mostly children and women. Music and lyrics totally don’t match.
But if you don’t mind strange lyrics (like me) and love mellow folk (like me), then get this album!

The mood that The National creates with its music is overall quite dark, but not depressing. It is as you’re standing, late at night, alone in an empty street. Sometimes you see/feel something beautiful, sometimes you just get a bit of a scared feeling.
The music (not the lyrics) gives me a retrospective feeling on my past, that I see flashing in slowmotion before my eyes; but I can imagine this music having other effects on you. Although the melodies aren’t really inspiring and the voice of Matt Berninger is quite monotone, their songs never get boring. Also listen to their lyrics that are very well written. For The National-fans that live in Europe, don’t miss them in November

The fifth album of The Clientele has been playing here, already for weeks. So I decided to share it with you all! It mixes a lot of different instruments (and I really mean a lót!) with the mellow sound of McLean’s voice. This nice laid-back indie pop brings you simple melodies (that sometimes remind me a bit of The Shins) combined with a beautiful voice (that reminds me a bit of a less sharp Ben Gibbard of DCFC), which results in a perfect combination that gives you a feeling of seeing yourself lying in the grass with the sun in your eyes. And do listen to the lyrics: there are some lovely stories.
My favorite song: 7. The Queen of Seville

Excellent news for anyone who needs a hug: Travis is back! Four years after their last full album ‘12 memories’ they have released ‘The boy with no name’. Again, they prove themselves to be the number one band when it comes to happy-making mellow britpop with a soul. Their first single, ‘Closer’, makes you want to squeeze anyone you see! Fran’s (i.e. Francis Healey’s, the lead singer) voice makes you actually forget that falling overboard isn’t your average dream-experience. ‘Selfish Jean’ even makes you wish to be called a selfish b*tch if the line is poured in a song like that. In short: Travis may have failed to write that ‘really’ brilliant song, but the fans among us are definitely rewarded for their patience.
My favorite song:4. Big Chair
